MAXO VANKA MURALS
THURSDAY, AUGUST 16, 2018
A trip to see the Maxo Vanka Murals is scheduled for Thursday, August 16 at 10:30 AM at the Croatian Roman Catholic Church, 24 Maryland Avenue, Millvale. Maxo Vanka was a Croatian–American artist who was commissioned to paint the murals in 1937 and returned to do more in 1941. The murals show a strong faith and are unique. A spirit of Croatia as well as attributes of justice and injustice, mercy and the horrors of war are also present in the paintings. Our one-hour tour is at 10:30 a.m. and our guide is very knowledgeable. Be sure to bring your camera! The fee is a $10 donation per person. Grant’s Bar and Grill is located at the bottom of the hill for lunch. The church parking lot is adequate, but it is suggested that carpooling is a good idea. If carpooling, be at the church at 9:45 a.m. Please sign up on the sheet located on the desk in the Narthex. For more information you can google MAXO VANKA MURALS or contact Barbara McKelway, 412-366-4513 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
