A farewell precedes our new beginning

Pastor Susan delivers her final sermon as interim pastor at CPCBA on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2024.

It’s been said that life is a series of new beginnings, and our church is about to embark on a new beginning with Rev. Heather Schoenewolf, who starts as our pastor on October 1. We will be sharing more about her in the coming weeks. But new beginnings also imply endings, often making it bittersweet. So, as we eagerly say hello to Rev. Schoenewolf, we sadly say goodbye to Rev. Susan Rothenberg.

Since January of 2023, Susan has led us with optimism, faithful dedication, extraordinary energy and an obvious deep love of our congregation. She has enabled us to face the transition with resiliency; to not just maintain our momentum, but to move us forward in many ways. Because she was committed to us until we hired an installed pastor, we had none of the uncertainties and logistical challenges of constantly finding pulpit supply for Sundays, marriages and Baptisms, support of pastoral care or management of the staff. Her contribution is immeasurable, and her leadership has helped us to prepare our congregation for the arrival of a new pastor.

We wish her all the best in whatever comes next, saying farewell with love and gratitude.
